Victoria ‘PorkChop’ Parker from ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Receives Hospital Treatment After Eating a Hamburger
Victoria “PorkChop” Parker Faces Health Crisis and Community Support
World of Wonder, the production company behind RuPaul’s Drag Race, is rallying fans to support the show’s first eliminated contestant, Victoria “PorkChop” Parker, as she navigates a serious health crisis.
In a public statement shared via Instagram on March 13, World of Wonder revealed that Parker had been hospitalized following a severe reaction to a hamburger from a major grocery chain. The statement detailed, “Shortly after eating the hamburger, he started vomiting, had diarrhea and was severely dehydrated, which lasted 72 hours. 911 was called and he was immediately transported to the hospital via ambulance.”
The announcement was accompanied by a link to a GoFundMe campaign aimed at assisting Parker in her recovery. As of publication, the fundraiser has successfully raised $4,300 towards a goal of $6,000.
In her own words on the GoFundMe page, Parker described her health struggles: “After preparing a frozen hamburger patty, I became extremely ill. Within 24 hours, I was taken by ambulance to AV Medical Center, where I spent the next week bed-bound.” During her week-long hospital stay, Parker underwent multiple tests and treatments, including antibiotics and physical therapy.
Doctors diagnosed her with Hyponatremia, an intestinal infection, along with Acute Kidney Injury, Atrial Fibrillation, and Hypertension. She was discharged on March 8 with a strict recovery plan that includes bed rest, physical therapy, and in-home care.
Parker expressed hope for her recovery, noting the importance of ongoing physical therapy. “I am slowly relearning how to walk,” she shared, highlighting her urgent need for a medical mobility scooter to enhance her quality of life and regain independence. “Being able to get outside, especially to the large park in my neighborhood, would be a huge boost for my mental and physical health as I heal,” she explained.
Parker emphasized the significance of community support, saying, “Sometimes, a small act of kindness can make a world of difference. I have spent many years bringing joy to others, and now I find myself in need of support.”
Among the notable contributions to her GoFundMe, World of Wonder made the largest donation of $1,500, while Drag Race Season 6 winner Bianca Del Rio contributed $1,000.
Parker, who made history as the first contestant eliminated from Drag Race in 2009, has since become a beloved figure in the drag community and appeared alongside RuPaul in the 2021 TV movie The Bitch Who Stole Christmas and on Netflix’s AJ and the Queen. The outpouring of support from fans and fellow artists highlights the profound impact Parker has had on her community, as she embarks on her road to recovery.
