Understanding the Tragic Car Accident Involving the Putman Family That Claimed Three Lives
Tragedy Strikes the Putman Family Following Fatal Car Accident
The Putman family is reeling from grief after three of its members tragically lost their lives in a car accident. In a statement issued on September 27, the family identified the deceased as Bill "Papa" Putman, his wife Barb, also known as Neenee, and their daughter-in-law, Megan. A truck driver has since been charged in relation to the incident.
In an emotional message shared on Instagram, the family expressed, “We know Papa, Neenee and Aunt Megan are not gone forever. They are alive and whole in Heaven, standing before Jesus, hearing the words we all long to hear: ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant.’”
The accident also resulted in injuries to several other family members. The Putmans have been actively updating their followers on the recovery of those still hospitalized. “Please keep Uncle Blake, Lulu, Alena, Noah and Gia in your prayers as they remain in the hospital,” the family added in their statement.
Overview of the Accident
While further details about the accident are limited, the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that it involved a two-vehicle collision on September 26. According to police, a southbound commercial semi-truck failed to stop at a sign, resulting in a collision with an eastbound Jeep carrying eight residents from nearby Cass City. Tragically, three occupants of the Jeep were pronounced dead at the scene, while the others were transported to hospitals, with some in critical condition.
The sheriff’s office stated, “The driver and passenger of the semi truck were transported to the hospital for minor injuries. The driver of the semi truck was subsequently arrested and a report is being forwarded to the Prosecutor for formal charges.”
Victims of the Accident
The family’s statement confirmed the heartbreaking loss of Bill, Barb, and Megan. “Thank you for every prayer, message and act of love,” they wrote, emphasizing the importance of community support. “Please continue to lift us up, that our hearts remain fixed on the truth that Jesus conquered death so we could have eternal life.”
Status of the Injured Family Members
Several other family members—Uncle Blake, Lulu, Alena, Noah, and Gia—sustained injuries and were hospitalized. In a post on September 28, the family shared that Noah remains sedated but is showing signs of responsiveness. Gia underwent a craniotomy, and the family expressed gratitude for positive updates regarding her condition.
By early October, Blake, Lulu, and Alena had been discharged, while Noah began outpatient rehabilitation. However, on December 9, the family reported that Gia was still hospitalized following her “10th major surgery in the last 75 days.” They noted, “Our family hasn’t been fully together since September 26.”
Legal Proceedings
On September 29, the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Pavel B. Shchukin, the driver of the commercial truck involved in the accident, has been charged with multiple counts. He faces three counts of moving violation causing death and five counts of moving violation causing serious impairment of a body function. Shchukin is currently held on a $100,000 bail at the Tuscola County Jail, with no details released regarding his plea.

Just days before the fatal accident, Barb Putman honored her husband Bill on social media, praising him for his unwavering support and influence in their family. Her heartfelt message appreciated his roles as a husband, father, and grandfather, highlighting the love and inspiration he provided to their family.
