Tyler Glasnow perseveres through cold weather to guide the Dodgers to a victory in Colorado
DENVER — The Los Angeles Dodgers faced off against the Colorado Rockies in what ultimately became a striking 7-1 victory at Coors Field on Friday. The game marked a notable contrast: the Dodgers, one of the hottest teams in baseball, played in the coldest conditions their franchise has ever experienced.
With temperatures hovering around 35 degrees, Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow — a California native — demonstrated remarkable resilience, shrugging off the frigid elements. Manager Dave Roberts praised Glasnow’s growth, stating, “He’s grown exponentially. I don’t see that these conditions are going to affect him today.”
Indeed, Glasnow proved Roberts right, securing the win by pitching seven innings that saw him allow just one run and two hits while striking out seven batters. The Rockies scored only once, in the fourth inning, when Troy Johnston’s groundout drove in Mickey Moniak, bringing the score to 5-1.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers’ offense was relentless. They scored in every inning until the sixth, with Max Muncy leading the charge. Muncy’s powerful performance included leadoff home runs in both the second and fifth innings, contributing to a decisive victory that kept the Dodgers’ momentum strong — they have now won 15 of their last 19 games.
A crowd of 28,783 witnessed the game, with many Dodgers fans bundled up and cheering for their team. Right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano took the loss for the Rockies after exiting the game following the fourth inning, having allowed five runs on nine hits.
The Dodgers opened the scoring in the first inning with a sacrifice fly from Will Smith that brought home Shohei Ohtani, who had led off the game with a double. Muncy’s second-inning shot soared 434 feet to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead, and shortly after, he doubled to score Smith, making it 3-0.
By the end of the fifth inning, the score had escalated to 7-1, with notable contributions from other players, including Andy Pages and Alex Freeland.
As the game continued, the efforts of the Rockies’ ground crew should not go unnoticed. They worked diligently to clear several inches of snow in the hours leading up to the game, ensuring a playable field for the exciting match.
Looking forward, the Dodgers are set to continue their series against the Rockies on Saturday, with right-hander Emmet Sheehan expected to take the mound against Rockies right-hander Ryan Feltner.
