Two People Hurt in Santa Monica Pier Shooting Following Altercation, Police Report
Police Investigate Shooting Incident on Santa Monica Pier
SANTA MONICA, CA — Two adults sustained injuries during a shooting on Sunday night, triggered by a confrontation between groups at the Santa Monica Pier, according to local police.
Santa Monica police received a 911 call around 9 p.m. reporting gunfire near Pier Burger. Lt. Lewis Gilmour, the department’s public information officer, confirmed that responding officers found a large crowd engaged in a violent altercation.
One shooting victim was discovered on the pier, suffering from injuries assessed as non-life-threatening. This individual was promptly transported to a nearby hospital. A second victim later made their way to a hospital independently. Both are adults.
In the aftermath of the shooting, police closed the entire pier to the public for safety and investigative purposes. Portions of the pier remained closed through the night.
Authorities have not yet released information regarding any suspects. However, police believe that the shooting was an isolated incident connected to the groups involved in the fight.
Santa Monica police detectives are currently conducting an in-depth investigation into the matter. Officials plan to release additional information on Monday.
