Two People Charged in Shooting of 14-Year-Old Boy in Long Beach
LOS ANGELES – A 14-year-old boy is currently in stable condition after being shot multiple times and assaulted in Long Beach. The incident, which took place Sunday afternoon, prompted an immediate investigation by local police.
According to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD), the victim was walking south on Locust Avenue around 12:50 p.m. when he was chased by an assailant who opened fire. After the boy fell to the ground, the attacker reportedly pistol-whipped him before fleeing the scene.
Responding officers acted swiftly, administering critical medical aid that included the use of chest seals and a tourniquet, which likely saved the boy’s life.
Within 24 hours of the attack, police arrested a 19-year-old, Jian Xavier Salas, along with another 14-year-old male, on suspicion of attempted murder. Salas has been booked and is being held on a $75,000 bail. The identity of the minor suspect has not been disclosed.
Despite the arrests, the motive behind this alarming act remains unclear as gang detectives continue their investigation.
Long Beach Chief of Police Wally Hebeish expressed deep concern regarding the incident, stating, “No child should ever be subjected to any form of violence, and no one should ever be involved in committing such a brazen and heartless act.” He added, “The attempted murder of a 14-year-old by another 14-year-old is both tragic and disheartening. I am incredibly grateful for the immediate medical aid provided by our responding officers. Their heroic efforts undoubtedly saved this young man’s life.”
The case has been handed over to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for further consideration.
