Trump Responds to Jimmy Kimmel’s Jokes About Markwayne Mullin: “He Lacks Talent”
Trump’s Remarks on Kimmel and Mullin Spark Controversy
Former President Donald Trump made headlines today with his comments regarding newly confirmed Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and late-night host Jimmy Kimmel. During an appearance on Fox News’ The Five, Trump attempted to commend Mullin while defending him against Kimmel’s recent critiques, but the effort seemed to backfire.
Trump described Mullin, a former senator from Oklahoma, as “country smart,” referencing his fighting background and plumbing business. “He had a very good record in fighting but, you know, that’s unimportant,” Trump remarked. This characterization, which some interpreted as a veiled insult, elicited laughter from the The Five hosts.
Kimmel had previously joked about Mullin’s past fighting career and business endeavors during an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on March 25. Responding to Kimmel’s jabs, Trump intensified his criticism of the comedian. “I’ve watched this guy,” Trump stated, labeling Kimmel a “loser” and asserting, “He gets no ratings, none.”
The former president’s remarks come as Kimmel continues to face his own challenges. Last year, he was temporarily pulled off the air following controversial comments regarding conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Trump’s critiques aligned with a broader pattern of disdain he has expressed toward Kimmel, whom he accused of lacking talent.
“He’s got Trump Derangement syndrome,” Trump continued, insinuating that Kimmel’s critical stance toward him is unmerited. “He shouldn’t be on the air. In the old days, when you didn’t have good ratings, you got fired. He should be canned.”
Despite Trump’s sentiments, there is little indication that Disney plans to part ways with Kimmel, who is under contract until May 2027. As Trump’s comments reverberate through media outlets, they underscore the ongoing tension between political figures and late-night hosts in today’s entertainment landscape.
