President Trump Comments on Recent Fatal Shootings in Minneapolis
President Donald Trump has publicly addressed the deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good, both of whom were killed by federal agents in Minneapolis during recent protests. Speaking during an interview on The Will Cain Show on Fox News, Trump expressed his condolences, citing the circumstances surrounding Good’s death as particularly troubling due to her parents’ support for him.
Trump described the incidents as "terrible," emphasizing that he felt "even worse" regarding Good’s death because her parents were known to be "Trump fans." His remarks came just three days after the shooting of Pretti on January 24, 2026.
"I don’t know that you could say radicalized, maybe radicalized, maybe not,” Trump remarked during the interview, reflecting on the situation surrounding Good, who was shot by federal agents on January 7 while reportedly observing an ICE operation.
The investigation into Pretti’s death revealed that he was killed while participating in a protest against ICE enforcement actions. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the shooting occurred as agents were executing a "targeted operation" against an individual wanted for violent assault. DHS official Tricia McLaughlin stated in a news release that Pretti allegedly approached officers while armed and "violently resisted" arrest. However, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara later clarified that Pretti was a lawful gun owner, contradicting some initial claims.
Multiple witnesses have since shared videos that challenge the DHS’s version of events, suggesting that Pretti appeared unarmed at the time of the shooting. Following the tragedy, Pretti’s family characterized the DHS’s account as “sickening lies.”
Good’s death, which occurred three weeks prior, has also drawn attention. Reports indicate she was shot while she and others attempted to block an ICE enforcement action. City Council member Jason Chavez characterized her as a concerned citizen helping to protect the immigrant community.
Trump acknowledges that tragedies can occur during law enforcement operations, stating, "ICE is gonna make mistakes sometimes. It can happen." He expressed sadness over the loss of life while acknowledging the support received from Good’s father, a known advocate for Trump.
In a recent development, Trump hinted at a potential reassessment of immigration enforcement in Minneapolis, specifying that adjustments would involve "de-escalation" rather than a complete pullback.
Trump’s comments have sparked discussions about the implications of federal actions in local communities, especially amid ongoing debates about immigration practices and the safety of all individuals involved.
