Tragic Hit-and-Run in Playa del Rey Claims Lives of Man and Child; Suspect Still At Large
Search for Driver After Fatal Hit-and-Run in Playa del Rey
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. – Authorities are actively pursuing a suspect linked to a tragic hit-and-run accident that claimed the lives of a man and a 1-year-old child early Sunday morning in Playa del Rey.
The Los Angeles Police Department reported that the collision occurred around 4:30 a.m. near Vista del Mar, just south of Culver Boulevard. In addition to the fatalities, a woman was hospitalized in critical condition following the incident.
Residents expressed their shock and sorrow over the news. "Just learning about it on my walk here, it’s devastating," one Playa del Rey resident remarked. Another resident added, "It’s horrible, what you just told me, tragic."
Fire officials confirmed that one of the drivers involved in the crash fled the scene. First responders described the suspect as a man in his 30s.
While investigations are ongoing, authorities are looking into whether speed or alcohol may have contributed to the crash. Local residents noted that the area has a history of high-speed driving. "In general, I think people are always just driving too fast," said one resident, emphasizing the challenges of the narrow road.
The relationship between the deceased is not yet clear. Investigations into the incident continue as the community mourns this devastating loss.
