Simi Valley Teen Fatally Struck by Train
A 13-year-old resident of Simi Valley was killed after being struck by a train at a railroad crossing, authorities confirmed on Sunday. The tragic incident occurred around 6:25 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Sequoia Avenue and Los Angeles Avenue, while the juvenile was riding an e-bike southbound on the east sidewalk of Sequoia Avenue.
The Simi Valley Police Department has identified the teenager as a student in the Simi Valley Unified School District. In a statement, the department expressed condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and classmates, calling it "a heartbreaking loss for the Simi Valley community."
Preliminary investigations suggest that the rider did not stop in time at the railroad crossing and was subsequently struck by the train. Emergency responders rendered life-saving measures at the scene, but the juvenile succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities emphasized the importance of vigilance for riders of bicycles, electric bicycles, and other motorized devices when approaching roadways and railroad crossings. They urged the public to adhere to posted signals and ensure safety before crossing tracks.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
