Tragic Accident in Long Beach Takes Toddler’s Life and Injures Two Others
Toddler Killed in Long Beach SUV Crash
LONG BEACH, Calif. — A tragic incident in Long Beach has resulted in the death of a toddler and injuries to two others after a driver reversed into a group sitting on the front steps of a home.
Shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Monday, the Long Beach Police Department responded to reports of a crash involving a vehicle and three pedestrians on the 400 block of Maine Avenue. According to police, a woman and two young girls were struck by the SUV and subsequently taken to a local hospital.
The toddler was transported to the hospital by police but sadly died from her injuries. The two survivors, a woman and another girl, are currently listed in stable condition.
Authorities reported that the driver was backing up the SUV, possibly attempting to turn around, when the vehicle jumped the curb and struck the group. The driver remained at the scene and was questioned by officers, but it remains unclear if he was taken into custody or if any substances were involved.
Witness Alisa Hill described the chaotic scene, stating she heard a "blood-curdling" scream and rushed outside. She noted that the woman was pinned between the vehicle and a nearby wall and observed a gash on the young girl’s leg.
“There was the white car backed up all the way onto someone’s front porch that they were hanging out on,” Hill recounted. She suggested that the driver might have mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, which led to the crash.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking event.
