Traffic Restrictions and Closures on Southbound I-5 in Burbank
Burbank to Close Southbound I-5 for Weekend Pavement Work
Beginning Friday night, a section of southbound Interstate 5 in Burbank will be closed for essential pavement maintenance. The work is set to begin at 10 p.m. on Friday and will last until 5 a.m. on Monday.
During this period, the freeway will be narrowed to two lanes between Cohasset Street and Empire Avenue/San Fernando Boulevard. Additionally, all southbound lanes will be shut down between Hollywood Way and Empire Avenue/San Fernando Boulevard during the early morning hours on both Saturday and Monday.
By 5 a.m. on Monday, all lanes and ramps are scheduled to reopen to traffic.
The following road closures will be in effect from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday:
- Up to four lanes of southbound I-5 between Cohasset Street and Empire Avenue/San Fernando Boulevard.
- Southbound I-5 on- and off-ramps at Buena Vista Street.
- The southbound I-5 off-ramp at Empire Avenue.
Further closures will occur from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. on Saturday and Monday, affecting:
- Southbound I-5 between Hollywood Way and Empire Avenue/San Fernando Boulevard.
- Southbound I-5 on- and off-ramps at Buena Vista Street.
- The southbound I-5 off-ramp at Empire Avenue.
- The southbound I-5 on-ramp at Hollywood Way.
Drivers should be prepared for detours during the full closure hours. Residents and businesses near the construction zone may experience noise, vibrations, and dust resulting from the activities.
This closure represents the fifth of six planned 55-hour weekend closures scheduled to continue through spring 2026. The overall construction project, aimed at replacing damaged pavement on I-5 between Cohasset Street and Empire Avenue, is expected to be completed by summer 2027. The initiative, which carries a budget of $23.2 million, is being overseen by Security Paving Company Inc.
