Timothée Chalamet’s Ballet and Opera Comments Leave ‘The View’ Co-Hosts Disappointed: A Cautionary Note
Timothée Chalamet stirred controversy during a recent town hall event alongside Matthew McConaughey, leading to his appearance on The View‘s "Hot Topics" segment. The Oscar-nominated actor expressed concerns about advocating for theatrical films, stating he would not want to work in ballet or opera “where it’s like, ‘Keep this thing alive even though no one cares about this thing anymore.’”
Co-host Sarah Haines highlighted the irony of Chalamet’s comments, noting that his grandmother, mother, and sister had all been involved with the New York City Ballet. “This seems like a family issue,” she quipped.
Sunny Hostin, a member of the Dance Theatre of Harlem, voiced her offense and disappointment over Chalamet’s remarks. "I didn’t realize that he was that vapid and that shallow,” she stated, underscoring the impact of his comments on the dance community.
Whoopi Goldberg weighed in, criticizing Chalamet for his remarks about the arts. She suggested that he may have underestimated the fallout, quipping that he likely lost 14 cents as a result. “You come from a dance family, and when you crap on somebody else’s art form, it doesn’t feel good,” Goldberg said, emphasizing the importance of being mindful of one’s words. She added, “And really, don’t apologize when you’ve insulted, because it doesn’t sound right.”
Goldberg concluded by reiterating the gravity of Chalamet’s comments, reminding him that dismissing an art form comes with consequences far more significant than he might anticipate.
