Tig Notaro Talks About Exciting New Project with Zack Snyder Focused on LGBTQ+ Stories
Tig Notaro, who gained unexpected recognition as a sex symbol in the 2021 film Army of the Dead, is now poised to leverage her newfound appeal.
The comedian recently disclosed that she is collaborating with the film’s director, Zack Snyder, on a project titled Deviants, which Snyder’s team has confirmed is under development. According to Notaro, the film will feature “hot lesbian action.”
On the podcast On with Kara Swisher, Notaro reflected on her viral appeal following Army of the Dead: “I go viral for being sexy in this film. And it was so unexpected. My phone’s exploding. I’m not walking around going ‘Oh my God,’ you know, ‘check me out.’ I was so confused. So I called Zack, and I said, ‘I’m hearing it from straight men, gay men, gay women, and straight women that they think I’m hot in this movie.’”
Notaro joined the cast of Army of the Dead in 2020, stepping in for Chris D’Elia, who was removed from the film due to sexual misconduct allegations. Notaro’s seamless integration into the role of helicopter pilot Marianne Peters opened the door for her and Snyder to brainstorm new projects.
She recounted their conversation: “‘What if we just went for it and everyone’s a hot lesbian?’ He was like, ‘Oh my God, yes, let’s make that movie.’” As they work on the script, Notaro envisions a film that combines humor and LGBTQ+ themes, set in an “old-timey” context involving “closeted deviants.”
Notaro is represented by UTA, while Snyder is represented by CAA, Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern, and ID.
