The Wiggles Share Their Surprising Confession About Oasis: ‘I Feel So Out of Touch’
The Wiggles Make Waves with Oasis Admission
In a recent appearance on Australian radio, members of The Wiggles drew significant online attention after revealing their limited familiarity with Oasis, even confusing the iconic Britpop band with The Beatles.
The lighthearted moment transpired during an interview featuring Anthony Field and his daughter Lucia Field, known as the Blue Wiggles, on Nova 96.9’s Ricki-Lee & Tim. While engaging in a game that involved identifying popular songs, the hosts played Oasis’ 1995 hit "Wonderwall." Lucia candidly admitted she did not recognize the song, prompting laughter and disbelief from the show’s hosts.
“Controversially, I like Blur more… that is why I have no idea,” Lucia remarked, referencing the notorious rivalry between Oasis and Blur, which surprised the hosts. Tim Blackwell responded, “No! That is gonna go everywhere,” highlighting the unexpected nature of her comment.
Anthony Field then added to the exchange by sharing his own limited knowledge of Oasis. He recounted a visit to Abbey Road Studios with his son, where he mistakenly bought a poster thinking it featured Paul McCartney and John Lennon. Instead, his son pointed out, “They’re the guys from Oasis.” “I am so out of touch mate,” Anthony concluded, though he did acknowledge awareness of "Wonderwall," stating, “I know they had a song called ‘Wonderwall.’”
This admission comes as interest in Oasis sees a resurgence, driven by a recent blockbuster reunion tour that has generated significant global demand and sold-out stadiums worldwide. The band, fronted by brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, achieved eight No. 1 albums in the U.K. and defined the rock scene of the 1990s with enduring tracks such as "Don’t Look Back in Anger" and "Champagne Supernova." "Wonderwall" remains their most successful hit in the United States, peaking at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1996 while also topping the Alternative Airplay chart.
Meanwhile, The Wiggles are continuing to broaden their reach beyond traditional children’s entertainment. The group is collaborating with various artists across genres, including pop, country, and rock, and has garnered a growing adult fanbase through festival appearances and viral moments. They participated in the radio segment to promote their latest single, "Sparkle."
