The Last of Us Welcomes Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, and Spencer Lord as Series Regulars; Jason Ritter and Patrick Wilson Join Season 3 Cast
HBO’s The Last of Us Prepares for Major Season 3 Casting News
HBO’s acclaimed series The Last of Us is set to embark on its third season, which is being touted as possibly its final chapter. The new season will feature promotions for Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, and Spencer Lord, alongside confirmed recurring roles for Jason Ritter and Patrick Wilson.
Ritter, who previously appeared uncredited as a Clicker—a character infected by the mutated cordyceps fungus—in Season 1, will now take on the role of Hanley, a soldier from the Washington Liberation Front (WLF). Wilson is slated to portray Jerry, Abby’s father, played by Kaitlyn Dever.
Set 20 years after the collapse of modern civilization, The Last of Us follows the story of Joel, portrayed by Pedro Pascal, a rugged survivor tasked with smuggling a 14-year-old girl named Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey, out of a harsh quarantine zone. Their initial mission spirals into a harrowing journey across the U.S., demanding their unwavering reliance on each other.
As Season 2 unfolds, a time jump of five years places Joel and Ellie amidst conflicts that further complicate their survival against an increasingly perilous environment. While specifics regarding Season 3’s storyline remain under wraps, it is anticipated that the narrative will unfold from Abby’s perspective.
Returning cast members for the new season will include Bella Ramsey, Isabela Merced, Gabriel Luna, and Jeffrey Wright. New faces in the ensemble include Clea DuVall as a Seraphite and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. stepping into the role of Manny, succeeding Danny Ramirez.
Co-created by Craig Mazin and the game’s Neil Druckmann, The Last of Us was renewed for a third season prior to the debut of Season 2 last April. Mazin will serve as the sole showrunner for this upcoming season, following Druckmann’s exit from the role.
This major shakeup in casting and direction raises anticipation for the continuing evolution of The Last of Us, a series that has captivated audiences since its premiere.
The trio of Barer, Gabrielle, and Lord will continue their roles as Mel, Nora, and Owen, having joined the series as recurring stars in Season 2.
As The Last of Us advances into its third season, the excitement and speculation regarding its direction and character development continue to build.
