The Drew Barrymore Show Gets Two More Seasons!
CBS Stations and CBS Media Ventures Renew The Drew Barrymore Show for Two Seasons
In a significant move within the evolving landscape of daytime talk shows, CBS Stations and CBS Media Ventures have announced a two-season renewal for The Drew Barrymore Show. This extension will take the program through its seventh and eighth seasons, amidst a climate where daytime talk is facing challenges.
The renewal comes with time period upgrades in several key markets, including Seattle, Minneapolis, Cleveland, Charlotte, Baltimore, Kansas City, and Cincinnati. Since its launch, The Drew Barrymore Show has been a fixture in CBS’s lineup, and it will continue airing in major markets such as New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
The show debuted during a notable period for daytime talk, spanning from 1999 to 2022, but has faced headwinds as the genre has seen a decline. Increased competition from cheaper, often non-union video podcasts has led to struggles for first-run syndication, particularly for talk shows.
Amidst this backdrop, two other talk shows from the 1999-2022 wave—The Kelly Clarkson Show and Sherri—will conclude this season, while The Jennifer Hudson Show has also secured a renewal for one season. The future of Tamron Hall, under the oversight of ABC News since 2021, remains unclear.
Drew Barrymore expressed her gratitude for the renewal, stating, “What matters most to us is our viewers and the people that come here! This show began as a space for intimate conversation, and we’re continuing to plant our flag as a truly multiplatform experience. My curiosity about people is what fuels me. I’m so excited to continue as I see this endeavor as an opportunity and a gift.”
Currently, The Drew Barrymore Show is enjoying its most-watched season, with an average of 1.6 million viewers daily, according to Nielsen. Its digital presence has expanded significantly, boasting over 14 million followers across social media platforms. Engagement has increased by 47% year over year, with interviews made available in both broadcast edits and extended cuts on YouTube.
The show recently earned its first Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Daytime Talk Series Host. Executive producer Jason Kurtz remarked on Barrymore’s influence, stating, “Drew is the original influencer—a true trendsetter and culture-driving force who has consistently stayed ahead of the conversation.” He added that her authentic presence continues to reshape the expectations of daytime television in an increasingly digital world.
