The Boys Creator Reflects on How Trump’s AI Jesus Post Changed Views on Homelander’s God Complex
Eric Kripke Voices Concerns Over Real-Life Parallels to ‘The Boys’
In the latest developments surrounding the critically acclaimed series The Boys, creator and showrunner Eric Kripke has expressed his unease regarding the striking similarities between the show’s narrative and real-world events, particularly those involving Donald Trump. Known for his unfiltered commentary on Trump, Kripke has begun to predict the former president’s unpredictable actions, observing an unsettling correlation between fiction and reality.
The inspiration for Kripke’s comments arose from a recent episode titled "Every One of You Sons of Bitches," in which Homelander, portrayed by Antony Starr, chillingly declares himself God. This claim mirrors a recent post made by Trump on Truth Social, drawing attention when Kripke responded with an AI-generated image of the former president depicted as Jesus Christ.
"I am really tired and weary of the world reflecting the show before we get a chance to do it," Kripke told Polygon. He added, “I appreciate the marketing. I’m just like, can you just please give us a chance to put some absurd satire out there before you prove that it’s more realistic than we ever intended?”
The creator elaborated on the uncanny timing: “This is the episode where Homelander decides he’s going to be God, and 48 hours before it, Trump releases an image of himself as God.” He noted the challenges in introducing bold concepts to audiences, remarking, “We have to be careful about how we even introduce the idea to the public because they’ll say he’s gone too far.”
Earlier this month, Trump faced backlash from both political sides and subsequently deleted the AI image of himself as Jesus. He later claimed to the press, “I thought it was me as a doctor and had to do with Red Cross. It’s supposed to be me as a doctor making people better. And I do make people better.”
Moreover, Kripke has previously stated that the fifth and final season of The Boys was written prior to the 2024 presidential election. He remarked on the “really f*cking unsettling” nature of the upcoming seventh episode, which features a plot point that has already occurred in real life. This ongoing interplay between the series and real-world events continues to spark intrigue and concern among the show’s creators and its audience alike.
