NEARLY A MONTH AFTER THE OSCAR NOMINATIONS
Teyana Taylor and Jessie Buckley recently celebrated their Oscar nominations through a FaceTime call, showcasing a camaraderie developed during the awards season. Taylor, nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in One Battle After Another, and Buckley, nominated for Best Actress for her performance in Hamnet, have forged a supportive friendship amidst their nominations.
In a January 22 interview, Taylor shared that both actresses reacted with excitement upon receiving the news of their nominations for the 98th Academy Awards. “She [Buckley] texted me, and we got on FaceTime,” Taylor recounted. “We both were on FaceTime, just screaming. She’s like, ‘I’m so proud of you.’ I’m like, ‘I’m so proud of you.’ It feels good to just all be so proud of one another.”
One Battle After Another garnered 13 total Oscar nominations, while Hamnet received eight. Taylor’s fellow nominees in the Best Supporting Actress category include Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Amy Madigan from Weapons, and Wunmi Mosaku from Sinners. Buckley is up against Rose Byrne from If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Kate Hudson from Song Sung Blue, Renate Reinsve from Sentimental Value, and Emma Stone from Bugonia.
Leading this year’s nominations is Sinners, which achieved a record-setting 16 nominations. Both Taylor and Buckley have already enjoyed success this awards season, having won awards at the Golden Globe Awards on January 11. Buckley also secured the Best Actress title at the Critics Choice Awards, while Taylor received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress. They are also poised to compete at the Actor Awards on March 1 in their respective categories.
Reflecting on her Oscar nomination, Taylor expressed a sense of disbelief, stating she was “still processing” the news. “It takes me back to when I first retired from music because I felt like they were trying to box me in, and I remember nobody believing me when I told them that I could do it all,” she remarked.
In summary, Taylor and Buckley exemplify the camaraderie often seen in the awards arena, with both artists celebrating significant recognition for their work as they prepare for the upcoming Oscars.

Taylor further emphasized her ambitions, likening her presence in both music and film to a "Glade plugin," stating, “Why only be plugged in the bathroom when you can make the whole house smell good? The fact that everything is happening at once — being nominated for a Grammy for my album and nominated for an Oscar for acting and winning a Golden Globe — is a testament to standing 10 toes down on your dreams.”
The Oscars will take place on March 15, 2026, and will be hosted live by Conan O’Brien, marking a return for the renowned comedian to the annual event. Beginning in 2029, the awards ceremony is set to transition from traditional television broadcast to YouTube.
