Texas News Anchors Clarify Relationship After Viral On-Air Conflict
Texas news anchors Carney Porter and Michael Bohling have addressed the public following a contentious exchange that gained attention during their February 25 broadcast. The incident occurred during a 10 p.m. newscast on KFDX3 in Wichita Falls, when Porter, while introducing a weather segment, mentioned that there was no rain in the forecast.
Bohling, the station’s meteorologist, quickly interjected, asserting, “I just said a second ago we have rain in the forecast.” The anchors engaged in a back-and-forth, with Porter clarifying her comment about clear skies for the next few days. Bohling then noted that rain was expected before the upcoming event, prompting Porter to respond, “Stop trying to correct people and just do your job.” Bohling’s frustrated reply, “I just don’t know why you don’t listen to me!” added to the tension.
The exchange intensified when Porter remarked that she wasn’t paying attention because Bohling is “boring,” to which Bohling reacted with visible shock. A viewer posted the clip on Facebook, captioning it, “What just happened!?! That was a SPICY exchange for 10 o’clock news!!” Since then, the clip has been viewed over 100,000 times across various social media platforms.
Following the broadcast, Bohling took to Facebook to clarify that the playful banter between him and Porter was not meant to convey animosity. “Carney and I are super close, nearly siblings in a way,” he explained. “We literally talk trash to each other all day, and sometimes it comes out on-air. Trust me, it’s all love.” To further lighten the situation, he later shared a humorous photo of himself and Porter wearing boxing gloves, joking, “I think it’s time for us to just drop the gloves already.”
Bohling emphasized the familial bond they share off-air, recounting instances of mutual support. He mentioned that they often confide in each other during difficult times and even provide rides to each other during car troubles. "Carney and I love each other like family," he stated, reiterating that their on-air exchanges are light-hearted teasing rather than genuine conflict.
Porter echoed Bohling’s sentiments in her own Facebook post, clarifying that their playful interactions are always meant in good fun. She acknowledged any discomfort felt by viewers, assuring them, “I would NEVER intentionally be mean or hurtful to Michael or anyone in our newsroom.”
Porter joined KFDX in 2021 and was promoted to anchor in January 2022. Bohling has been the chief meteorologist since December 2021. Their recent on-air exchange serves as a reminder of the close-knit dynamics often at play behind the scenes at news stations, even as they navigate the unpredictability of live broadcasting.
