CHINO HILLS, Calif. — A rollover accident involving a Tesla led to the ignition of a 30-acre brush fire in Chino Hills late Wednesday night, prompting temporary evacuation orders for nearby communities, according to officials from Chino Valley fire.
The fire, now known as the Grand Fire, erupted near Grand Avenue and Pleasant Hill Drive, adjacent to the Diamond Bar border. It posed a significant threat to approximately 650 homes before firefighters managed to bring it under control.
Initial Incident and Response
The incident began when the Tesla driver lost control, resulting in a rollover crash that ignited nearby brush. Flames quickly spread to both sides of Grand Avenue. Fire officials reported the blaze at 7:13 p.m., which grew rapidly, necessitating a large-scale emergency response.
In total, more than 200 firefighters, supported by 20 fire engines and three helicopters, were engaged to combat the flames. As the situation escalated, emergency responders issued evacuation orders and warnings for those living in the vicinity of the fire.
Firefighters Gain Ground
