### Team USA Announces Olympic Skiing and Snowboarding Team
Team USA has confirmed its roster of 97 skiers and snowboarders for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics in Northern Italy. The Winter Games, set to take place from February 6 to February 22, will feature competitions across Milan, Cortina d’Ampezzo, Valtellina, and Val di Fiemme.
In a statement, snowboard program director Rick Bower remarked, “In many ways, making this team is even harder than the Olympics themselves. The depth of our field is incredible, and selection truly came down to the wire.”
The team will include several notable Olympic gold medalists, such as Mikaela Shiffrin, Chloe Kim, and Lindsey Vonn. Other prominent athletes include Red Gerard, Alex Hall, and Nick Baumgartner.
U.S. Ski & Snowboard President and CEO Sophie Goldschmidt expressed her confidence in the team’s performance, stating, “I’m confident about the impact [Team USA] will make in Italy.” Anouk Patty, U.S. Ski & Snowboard Chief of Sport, noted, “This is one of the strongest teams we have sent to the Games,” adding that she is excited to cheer for them on the world stage.
With a mix of experienced Olympians and younger talent, the team brings a wealth of experience to the competition. Vonn, 41, is set to make history as the oldest woman to compete in Alpine skiing at the Winter Olympics. After multiple injuries and a successful comeback, she expressed her determination to finish her career strong.
Shiffrin, 30, holds the record for the most victories among alpine skiers, with 107 wins. Her selection comes after a challenging recovery from a life-threatening injury sustained during the Stifel Killington Cup in November 2024. Though she has acknowledged feeling “nervous,” she remains motivated and eager to return to competitive skiing.
Kim, at age 25, is also poised to make history by aiming for a “three-peat” in the women’s snowboard halfpipe event, having won gold in both the 2018 and 2022 Olympics. Reflecting on the upcoming games, Kim stated, “I don’t really feel that type of pressure… I think this time I just really want to enjoy the experience and have a good time.”
Gerard, now 25, is returning for his third Olympic appearance after making history in 2018 as the youngest snowboarding gold medalist. He continues to focus on treating the Olympics like any other competition to manage the high stakes.
As preparations ramp up for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, a strong sense of anticipation surrounds Team USA’s roster, which embodies a legacy of excellence in winter sports.
