Taylor Swift’s "Wood" Stands Out in Year-End Statistics
Genius, a leading music database, recently released its year-end statistics, highlighting popular lyrics from the past year. Among the standout entries is a lyric from Taylor Swift’s song "Wood," which ranked as one of the website’s most-viewed of 2025.
The specific lyric, "He ah-matized me and opened my eyes," features prominently in the song, which is part of her album The Life of a Showgirl. It includes playful yet bold references to her fiancé, Travis Kelce.
Genius’s report indicated that "Wood" was the fourth most-viewed song of the year, trailing behind other popular tracks, including Kendrick Lamar’s "Not Like Us," which secured the top spot for most-viewed lyrics.
Notably, Genius experienced its largest traffic spike on October 3, accompanying the release of The Life of a Showgirl, drawing 29 million views. This marks a significant achievement, as it is only second to the release day of Swift’s earlier album, The Tortured Poets Department.
In an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Swift shared insights into the creative process behind "Wood." She described her initial vision: “I want to do a throwback, kind of timeless-sounding song,” explaining her inspiration around superstitions and the phrase "I ain’t gotta knock on wood."
Reflecting on the songwriting experience, Swift noted, “It really started out in a very innocent place. I don’t know how we got here, but I love this song so much."
Furthermore, in a separate interview with SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up, Swift discussed her mother’s interpretation of the song’s themes, mentioning, "I think she believes that the song is about superstitions, popular superstitions, which it absolutely is."
As 2025 winds down, Swift’s work continues to resonate, solidifying her position as the top artist on Genius for the year.
