Sydney Sweeney’s Hairstylist Supports Her Style After Criticism of Her Wig
Sydney Sweeney has garnered attention following a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she showcased a sleek blown-out bob hairstyle. The actress, 28, sparked discussion after content creator Blakely Neiman Thornton took to Instagram to critique her look, calling it “the stiffest wig.”
“It gives me no pleasure to poke fun at what I see, but I have to do so,” Thornton remarked. In response, Sweeney’s longtime hairstylist, Glen “Coco” Oropeza, defended her in now-deleted comments, stating, “Wasn’t a wig but you can’t get my girl’s name out of your mouth. You’re obsessed.”
Thornton, still undeterred, replied, “Hi @glencocoforhair, So nice of you to hop in the chat to defend the honor of your white employer who’s doubled down on Eugenics. My apologies … the hairstyle on Fallon merely LOOKED like a stiff wig. Please, carry on 😘.” This pointed comment referenced Sweeney’s recent ad for American Eagle, where she spoke about having “great genes,” a sentiment many took issue with.

Oropeza continued to challenge Thornton in a later comment, asking, “Stiff where? You’re doing a lot… Take a breath, diva. You can keep trying to spin a narrative, but we all know you just need click bait cuz your content is TIRED,” adding, “If you need attention, just say that. Imagine caring this much about a hairstyle you didn’t create and a woman who doesn’t know you exist. Goodnight.”

In a final retort, Thornton noted, “I hope you get paid overtime for being a sycophant after 9pm PST. If so, I can sign your timesheet. And you’re right, Black people are tired … very much so … good luck on the rest of the press tour.” He followed this with a meme of Raven Simone laughing, captioning, “Watching Sydney’s hairstylist crash out in the comments,” and added, “It’s 11pm and I’m feeling petty.”
Sweeney debuted her bob at the Christy premiere during the AFI Fest last month. In a November interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she expressed her admiration for her hairstylist, saying, “So my hairstylist Glen Coco just wanted to be able to do something different and I’m his little science experiment. I love him so much [that] I let him cut and color my hair.”
Initially hesitant, Sweeney revealed, “I was a little nervous. I think my long hair became my security blanket. I always wanted it down [and] wavy. But I’m loving this.” Her colorist, Jacob Schwartz, later shared his insights on Sweeney’s transformation, noting that she sought a change to enhance her features and stand out for her new film.
“[Sydney] wanted to have a big hair moment for the red carpet to support her new movie, Christy,” Schwartz said. “It felt like the perfect time to do something bold.”
