Stellan Skarsgård Joins Alexander Skarsgård on ‘SNL’ in a Fun Scandinavian Drama Spoof, ‘Immigrant Dad Show’ Redux
Following his recent nomination for an Oscar in the Best Supporting Actor category, Stellan Skarsgård made an appearance alongside his son, Alexander Skarsgård, during Alexander’s debut on Saturday Night Live. The elder Skarsgård provided support, making surprise cameo appearances throughout the show on Saturday night.
The elder Skarsgård’s presence was anticipated, especially when the show featured a skit titled “Stench of a Family,” which parodied the somber themes typically found in Scandinavian dramas. In this sketch, Alexander Skarsgård and cast member Chloe Fineman portrayed two Swedish siblings grappling with grief over their ailing father. However, they struggled to maintain a serious tone, often stumbling over lines and hinting at comedic improvisation. Stellan Skarsgård eventually joined them as the father, interrupting a serious moment with a humorous prop gag.
This marks SNL‘s second parody of European dramas; the show previously poked fun at the genre when Glen Powell hosted last year with a sketch titled “Norwegian Movie.”

Later in the episode, Marcello Hernandez revived his popular “Immigrant Dad Show” sketch, which first aired in 2024 with guest hosts Ramy Youssef and Dave Chappelle. In this revival, Hernandez reprised his role as host Joaquin Antonio, joined by a well-meaning Mikey Day, who showcased his “Melt the ICE” shirt to demonstrate his allyship. “Hola, Joaquin. I just want you to know that I’m thinking about your people lately, and I wanted to do something to help, so…” he began, revealing his shirt with a dramatic flair.
“Thank you so much, man,” Antonio replied sarcastically. “That is gonna fix everything.”
The sketch gained momentum with the entrance of a disheveled Stellan Skarsgård, once again portraying Alexander’s character’s stern father, whose strict demeanor is rivaled by his son’s. It reached a peak with a surprise appearance from Cardi B, the episode’s musical guest, who played Antonio’s irritable spouse, clearly in charge of the household.
“To all the dads out there, do whatever your wife says,” Antonio advised, wrapping up the sketch with an exasperated tone.
