Spain’s AF Films Teams Up with Hidden Pictures on the Action-Thriller ‘Chopper’
Spain-Based Production Company AF Films Partners with Hidden Pictures for New Film ‘Chopper’
Spain-based production company AF Films has announced a collaboration with Hidden Pictures, the team behind The Housemaid, to produce an action-driven feature film titled Chopper.
Set against the backdrop of real-time suspense, the story follows a haunted veteran helicopter pilot who makes a living on Caribbean charter flights. When hijackers seize his aircraft, he is compelled to undertake a perilous prison break under duress. As chaos and betrayal unfold, his only chance for survival hinges on his ability to keep flying.
The screenplay for Chopper is written by Luis Gerard, who will also direct the film. Production is scheduled to start in 2027, with filming locations set in the Canary Islands and mainland Spain. Casting is currently underway.
Chopper represents Gerard’s transition to feature films after garnering acclaim for several award-winning short films, including The Wake. His past work also encompasses a successful career in commercials for major brands such as Volkswagen, Nike, and IKEA.
Production duties for Chopper will be shared by Frank Ariza and Manu Vega of AF Films, alongside Todd Lieberman and Alex Young from Hidden Pictures. Nicole Bryant will oversee the film for Hidden Pictures, while WME will handle sales.
Hidden Pictures is enjoying commercial success following the release of Netflix’s War Machine and The Housemaid, which has earned nearly $400 million worldwide on a $35 million budget in the past four months. A sequel, The Housemaid’s Secret, is already in development.
AF Films, operating between Europe and the United States, is recognized for producing high-end feature films and prestige television through strategic partnerships and sophisticated financing models. Recent projects from the company include the Sundance 2025 selection Sorry Baby, Above and Below—which stars Antonio Banderas—and various dramas including Secretos de Estado and Mariachis, an HBO Max series.
“We’re very excited to collaborate with Hidden Pictures on Chopper,” said AF Films founder Frank Ariza. “This partnership reflects our shared interest in developing compelling, internationally scalable stories and building production collaborations that bring together creative talent and global production capabilities.”
