Southern California Weekend Forecast: Santa Ana Winds Bring Warmer Temperatures
Wind Advisory Issued for Southern California Through Sunday
Much of Southern California will experience gusty conditions this weekend as Santa Ana winds return to the region. A wind advisory is in effect until 1 p.m. Sunday, with isolated gusts reaching up to 70 mph in certain areas, according to the National Weather Service. Meteorologists warn that Saturday could bring the advisory’s peak winds, along with the potential for property damage.
“Given the recent rains, there’s a low risk of fires, but there’s an increased likelihood of downed trees and localized power outages,” said NBC4 meteorologist Stephanie Olmo.
Wind speeds are expected to remain significant across the region, with sustained gusts of 30 to 40 mph reported in wind-prone areas. Olmo indicated that while Sunday will see somewhat less intense winds, breezy conditions will persist.
The affected areas include Ventura County, parts of northern Los Angeles County—such as the Grapevine and adjoining valleys—and the Inland Empire along with Orange County. These regions are particularly susceptible to the effects of Santa Ana winds, characterized by their dry and warm nature as they flow in from the desert.
“This will initiate a gradual warming trend lasting into next week,” Olmo noted. “By then, temperatures may climb into the upper 70s and even low 80s in some locations.”
