South West High: Jalen Rose and Tom Gores Bring Their New Show to Tubi
Jalen Rose’s ‘South West High’ Set to Premiere on Tubi
Jalen Rose’s much-anticipated series, South West High, is scheduled to debut on Tubi on February 23. In addition to co-creating and serving as executive producer, Rose stars in the series, which marks the first project from his newly established label, Same Page Entertainment. The release date coincides with the unveiling of the first images from the series.
South West High is centered around a struggling inner-city high school in Detroit. Rose portrays Nolan Thomas, a former professional basketball player who returns to his alma mater as principal. As Nolan advocates for reform, he is challenged to face painful truths surrounding power, accountability, and sacrifice, ultimately realizing that saving the school may come at significant personal cost.
Rose drew inspiration for the show from his experience founding the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy. He stated, “This series is fiction, but the spirit behind it is very real. I wanted to share stories that reflect what I’ve witnessed for years—young people lifting each other up and believing in a future full of possibility. Creating this project also gave me the chance to collaborate with my longtime friend and former classmate Ty Mopkins, and continue telling stories rooted in our community.”
The cast of South West High includes Dawn Halfkenny (Saints & Sinners), Towanda Braxton (Braxton Family Values), Christina Cooper (The Oval), former NFL linebacker Stevie Baggs Jr., Brooklyn “Queen” Oates, and Don Brumfield Jr. Notable guest stars feature Anna Maria Horsford (Friday), Detroit rapper Sada Baby, and FOX 2 Detroit news anchor Maurielle Lue.
The series was developed and executive produced by Rose, Mopkins, and Dennis Reed II, who also wrote and directed the project. Grammy-nominated artist Royce 5’9” served as the music supervisor, composing the score alongside Denaun Porter.
As anticipation builds for the premiere, South West High promises to deliver a compelling narrative that resonates with themes of resilience and community.
