Sony Pictures Classics Acquires Global Rights to John Turturro’s ‘The Only Living Pickpocket in New York’
Sony Pictures Classics has secured the global rights to the crime thriller The Only Living Pickpocket in New York, directed and written by Noah Segan. The film, which made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and was recently showcased at the Berlin International Film Festival, is set for a theatrical release this fall.
This acquisition marks Sony Pictures Classics’ third film purchase from the festival, following Bedford Park by Stephanie Ahn and Ha-Chan, Shake Your Booty by Josef Kubota Wladyka.
Starring John Turturro as Harry Lehman, the narrative follows an aging pickpocket facing dwindling opportunities in a rapidly changing New York City. The film explores Harry’s struggles as he adapts to a world where cash and wallets are increasingly rare. As he grapples with financial difficulties while caring for his disabled wife, Rosie, portrayed by Karina Arroyave, Harry inadvertently steals a valuable USB stick, drawing the ire of a dangerous crime family.
The cast features Giancarlo Esposito, Will Price, Tatiana Maslany, Victoria Moroles, and Steve Buscemi.
With a fall release on the horizon, The Only Living Pickpocket in New York promises to offer a fresh perspective on crime and survival in a modern urban landscape.
