Sony Hires Emma Holly Jones and Kristina Lauren Anderson for New Film ‘Guinevere’
Sony Pictures has secured the pitch for Guinevere, a new interpretation of the legendary King Arthur tale. Directed by Emma Holly Jones and penned by Kristina Lauren Anderson, the film is currently in the early stages of development at the studio.
Details about the project remain limited, though it promises a fresh narrative centered on Arthur’s queen. The story of King Arthur, first documented in 12th-century literature, has been a prominent figure in stories retold across various mediums, particularly in Hollywood. Previously, adaptations have primarily focused on Arthur, but Guinevere aims to spotlight the woman by his side as the central character.
Emma Holly Jones has emerged as a notable talent in directing, having garnered acclaim for both the short and feature versions of Mr. Malcolm’s List, a period romantic comedy featuring an ensemble cast including Freida Pinto and Theo James. Released globally in 2022 by Universal Pictures and Bleecker Street, the film received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. Jones is also working on projects with Star Thrower Entertainment and Raw TV and is represented by CAA, Curtis Brown, Rogue Management, and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis.
Kristina Lauren Anderson, the screenwriter for Guinevere, is currently writing the sequel to Disney’s live-action hit Cruella, with Emma Stone attached as star and producer. Anderson gained recognition a decade ago with her script for Catherine the Great, which topped The Black List. Additionally, she has adapted Paulo Coehlo’s best-seller The Alchemist for TriStar and is working on Swan Lake for Universal.
In the television realm, Anderson recently developed Fantasia as an animated series for Disney+ and is scripting Kick, based on the life of Kick Kennedy, as an ongoing series for Apple. Previously, she served as Consulting Producer on TNT’s Golden Globe-nominated series The Alienist. She is represented by WME, Range, and attorney Robby Koch.
