Soleil Moon Frye Shares Her Experience of Raising Boys as Her Daughters Head Off to College

Soleil Moon Frye Reflects on Life as a "Boy Mom"
Soleil Moon Frye has adapted to her new role as a mother of boys now that both her daughters are pursuing higher education. The 49-year-old actress, best known for her role in Punky Brewster, shared her thoughts during a recent appearance at CORE’s 15th Anniversary Livestream Benefit Concert in Los Angeles.
In an insightful conversation, Frye explained her transition as she becomes accustomed to a household dynamic dominated by her sons. She is the proud mother of daughters Poet Sienna Rose, 20, and Jagger Joseph Blue, 17, as well as sons Lyric Sonny Roads, 11, and Story Indigo Moon, 9. Frye noted that it feels surreal to think that her daughters will soon no longer be living at home.
"My 11-year-old had two of his friends over, and they were doing a science experiment. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, is this what boy mom vibes is going to be like? Hip-hop playing and baggy pants?’ And I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, what is happening?’ … I’m like, ‘Girls, just remember to come home,’" she remarked.

Frye expressed her disbelief regarding her oldest daughter’s departure to college and reflected on her own feelings of nostalgia. "My oldest daughter is at college now, which is totally insane because I feel like I’m still college-age," she said. "Literally, I’ll go on and look at [her], I’m like, ‘Oh, I’m ready to go back to college!’"
She described the experience of watching her children grow up as both beautiful and transformative. "It’s wild. It’s beautiful. To see what incredible beings they have been—from the time they came into this world, and as they enter the next stages of life—it just brings so much joy to my heart, and so much love and admiration," she shared.
Additionally, Frye articulated her hopes for her daughters as they embark on their independent journeys. "I would say … to just know … there’s that connection that is there [with me], that is always home no matter where you are. And just to always go back to that place, and close your eyes, and feel it," she advised. "And I want them to explore, and live in joy and purpose and fun. Lots of fun. Have fun. Enjoy. Drink up the world."
Frye shares her four children with ex-husband Jason Goldberg, from whom she separated in 2020 after 22 years of marriage.
