Sola Media Shares Trailer and New Partnerships for CGI Film ‘Monster Mia’ Ahead of Halloween 2026 Release
Sola Media Unveils International Trailer for Animated Feature ‘Monster Mia’
Sola Media has released the international trailer for its animated feature, Monster Mia, as it embarks on a new set of sales during the European Film Market (EFM).
Set in the idyllic town of Primrose, Monster Mia tells the story of a rebellious young girl who is expelled from her local school and sent to the enigmatic Rotwood Academy, where her classmates are monsters. With only her scruffy pet rat, Quentin, by her side, Mia must navigate her new environment, learn to fit in, and ultimately embrace her uniqueness.
The film is adapted from the ‘Monstrous Maud’ book series by UK author A. B. Saddlewick, with a German release titled Monster Mia. Since its launch at the American Film Market (AFM), the film has captured strong interest from buyers, fueled by its planned release for Halloween 2026.
As the EFM opens, Sola Media has secured several new sales following its AFM launch. These include agreements for the Baltics (ACME Film), CIS (Exponenta), Hungary and Romania (ADS Service), Czech Republic and Slovakia (Bontonfilm), Israel (Filmhouse), the Middle East (Gulf Film), Scandinavia (ManyMore Films), Italy (Notorious Pictures), Ukraine (Svoe Kino), and Vietnam (Skyline Media Company).
These recent deals complement earlier agreements with distributors in Poland (New Horizons), Greece (Tanweer), Bulgaria (Pro Films), Mongolia (Filmbridge), and former Yugoslavia (Karantanija Cinemas). Notably, in Germany, Plaion Pictures plans a theatrical release timed for Halloween in October 2026.
Produced by the Austria-based animation studio Arx Anima in collaboration with Peng! Boom! Tschak! – Films and Spain’s Arxlight Pictures, Monster Mia has been met with enthusiasm from global distributors. Dunja Bernatzky, Managing Director of Arx Anima, expressed her excitement, stating, “We’ve been absolutely thrilled by the response to Monster Mia from distributors around the world. This story about belonging, friendship, and embracing who you are connects with children and families, no matter where they live.”
Solveig Langeland, Managing Director of Sola Media, emphasized the film’s broad appeal. “Monster Mia is a Halloween adventure that speaks to children and families across cultures, and its seasonal nature allows for coordinated releases across multiple markets,” she noted.
Isabel Schneider, Sales and Market Manager for Sola Media, anticipates the Halloween 2026 rollout will facilitate a synchronized international release. She remarked on the film’s perfect alignment with the upcoming Films on the Move initiative under Creative Europe MEDIA, drawing on the success of their recent synchronized release of A Mouse Hunt for Christmas, which achieved over 2.2 million admissions globally.
