Sofia Wylie and Madison Thompson Lead Cast in New Comedic Thriller ‘The Lottery’
Sofia Wylie and Madison Thompson have been announced as the lead actors in The Lottery, a comedic thriller directed by Leo Milano. Wylie, known for her role in Netflix’s upcoming The Body, and Thompson, recognized from Euphoria, will showcase their talents alongside a star-studded cast.
Joining Wylie and Thompson are Genevieve Hannelius (Along for the Ride), Noa Fisher (Bunny), Trew Mullen (The Moment), Austin North (Outer Banks), and Esther Povitsky (Dollface), who also takes on a production role. Belmont Cameli, known for Off Campus, rounds out the ensemble.
The Lottery centers on five estranged childhood friends who attempt to reconnect during a final weekend getaway at a secluded ski cabin. Their plans veer off course upon discovering they possess a winning $300 million lottery ticket. As a fierce blizzard traps them indoors, buried secrets and old rivalries resurface. The reunion quickly devolves into a harrowing struggle as greed and manipulation threaten their lives.
What starts as a nostalgic gathering fueled by drinks soon spirals into a dangerous contest of deception and survival. The situation escalates further with the unexpected arrival of Ranger Rick (played by North), a charming yet enigmatic mountain patrolman whose presence complicates the already tenuous dynamics among the friends.
“The Lottery explores how quickly friendship can unravel when life-changing money ignites greed,” Milano remarked. He emphasized the relatability of the narrative, highlighting that it reflects the chaos and underlying tensions found in weekend trips with friends. He posed a provocative question: “Would you split millions of dollars with someone you hate?”
This project marks Milano’s second feature film, following the dramedy The Crusades, which he also directed. The screenplay is crafted by writers Jack Hussar and Shaun Early, who collaborated with Milano on the previous film. Producing the project are Brent Madison under their Bad Little Thing banner, along with Povitsky, Sharon Wisnia (Murder in a Small Town), and Morris Ruskin (Glengarry Glen Ross), with Ruskin and Wisnia advising on sales. Executive producers include Alex Pissios and Joseph Mellicker.
