Snoop Dogg to Star and Produce ‘God of the Rodeo’ Film by Director Rosalind Ross and Producers Ridley and Giannina Scott
Snoop Dogg to Star in ‘God Of The Rodeo’ Film
Snoop Dogg is set to take on a leading role in God Of The Rodeo, directed by Rosalind Ross. Alongside his Death Row Pictures partner, Sara Ramaker, Snoop will also serve as a producer for the film, which Ross is writing and directing. They will join previously announced producers Giannina Scott of Cara Films and Ridley Scott, who will produce under his Scott Free Productions banner.
“Linking up with Scott Free Productions and working with Ridley Scott and Giannina Scott on God of the Rodeo is life changing and an honor,” Snoop stated. “Rosalind Ross brought a story with heart and grit, and that’s what I’m about. Me and the team at Death Row Pictures stepping in as producers, I’m acting in it, and Death Row Records is building the soundtrack—and this one got soul… We’re bringing an important story and something special to the screen.”
The film draws inspiration from the investigative reporting of Daniel Bergner, focusing on the deadly Angola Prison in Louisiana during 1967. It follows Buckkey, a hardened inmate serving a life sentence, who discovers an unexpected chance at redemption through the prison’s inaugural inmate rodeo. As Buckkey and his fellow inmates prepare for this event, they come to realize that the rodeo is less about glory and more about survival—a spectacle intended to satisfy public bloodlust and feed the warden’s misguided sense of power.
“Snoop Dogg is one of the most gifted and influential artists alive, with admirers and fans all over the world and from every generation transcending music, sports, and culture,” Giannina Scott asserted. “Ridley and I, with our companies Scott Free and Cara Films, are so excited and blessed to have Snoop join the cast, and for him, Sara, and Death Row Pictures to partner with us to produce this important and soulful project from Rosalind Ross.”
“Snoop Dogg represents exactly the kind of collaboration we’re building towards at Death Row Pictures—bold, cinematic storytelling with real cultural weight,” Ramaker added. “Partnering with the Scott Free team, led by Ridley and Giannina, alongside Rosalind Ross’s vision, gives us the opportunity to create something powerful and authentic.”
Director Rosalind Ross expressed her excitement, stating, “It’s a thrill and an honor as a filmmaker to bring the legendary swagger, soul, and eccentricity of Snoop to this story in what will be a completely transformative role for him. Moreover, I’m deeply gratified by the kindred artistic spirit and conviction of cause that Snoop, Sara, and Death Row Pictures have for this collaboration.”
Recognized as one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2025, Snoop Dogg continues to broaden his legacy through ventures such as Death Row Records and Death Row Pictures, which holds a multi-year partnership with NBCUniversal. His cultural influence remains significant, including his role as a correspondent during the 2024 Paris Olympics and his appointment as Team USA’s first-ever Honorary Coach for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Among the flagship projects of Death Row Pictures is the highly anticipated Snoop Dogg biopic currently in development at Universal Pictures, highlighting the studio’s commitment to presenting powerful, true stories to a global audience.
