Snoop Dogg Joins Jonathan Daviss at CinemaCon to Celebrate Their New Biopic
Snoop Dogg and Jonathan Daviss Present Upcoming Biopic at CinemaCon
Snoop Dogg and Jonathan Daviss, the actor portraying the hip-hop icon in an upcoming untitled biopic, recently took the stage at Universal Pictures’ CinemaCon event to discuss the film directed by Craig Brewer.
“I wish I could give you more details” about the project, Snoop Dogg remarked, noting the limited information available at this stage. Filming is set to begin in Los Angeles this summer. “We’ll be back at CinemaCon next year with a trailer,” he promised before delighting the audience with a snippet of his classic hits, including "Gin and Juice" and "Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang," accompanied by DJ Green Lantern.
The biopic will chronicle the rise of Calvin Broadus Jr., known to fans as Snoop Dogg. His debut album, Doggystyle, released in 1993 in collaboration with Dr. Dre, marked the beginning of a long and celebrated career, encompassing numerous Grammy nominations. Snoop Dogg has also made significant contributions to film and television, regularly partnering with NBCUniversal, appearing on shows like The Voice, and serving as a familiar face during the network’s Olympic coverage.
Donna Langley, chair of NBCUniversal Entertainment, joined Snoop on stage, describing Brewer’s film as “the spiritual cousin of Straight Outta Compton,” referencing the acclaimed 2015 film directed by F. Gary Gray.
Jonathan Daviss first gained prominence for his role as Pope Heyward in the Netflix series Outer Banks and also starred alongside Sophie Turner and Maya Hawke in the film Do Revenge. His previous works include Age of Summer and Edge of the World.
Snoop Dogg is not only starring in the biopic but also producing it alongside Brian Grazer under Death Row Pictures’ deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment & Studios.
