In an intriguing twist on the heist genre, "Midnighter," directed and written by Raviv Ullman and Greg Yagolnitzer, premiered on March 13, 2026. The film follows two sisters whose strained relationship leads them to rob a rural home in upstate New York. However, the heist takes a dark turn when one sister injures her back, becoming immobilized on the second floor. As night falls, the duo’s plan spirals into chaos as they must navigate the challenges of their predicament before the homeowner returns.
Lizzy Caplan, one of the film’s stars, expressed her enthusiasm for working alongside co-star Lucy DeVito, sharing, "It’s rare when — you know, you go over a script on your own in a vacuum and then when you read it with other people, it’s a very rare thing when they do it in the exact way that you kind of imagined the person you’re opposite doing it, and it was like that from the very, very jump.” She added, “And she actually was dragging me around, which I think helps with the physicality part of it. It was pretty practical.”
The film presents a complex exploration of familial bonds under extreme pressure, providing audiences with a gripping narrative that combines elements of suspense and dark humor. With an ensemble cast that includes Danny DeVito, Jake DeVito, John Stamos, and Christine Ko, "Midnighter" promises to engage viewers on multiple levels, making it a noteworthy addition to the cinematic landscape.
