Sierra Canyon’s Maxi Adams Named Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year
Maxi Adams Leads Sierra Canyon to Championship Glory
Sierra Canyon’s 6-foot-8 senior, Maxi Adams, has navigated the challenges of a competitive basketball season with grace and determination. After being a standout All-American player, Adams embraced the arrival of new talent, including fellow All-American Brandon McCoy and former Trinity League player of the year Brannon Martinsen. Instead of feeling threatened, Adams welcomed the competition and adapted his game for the betterment of the team.
“Anything for the win,” Adams stated. “Trust the coach’s game plan.” His willingness to adjust has not only fostered team chemistry but also solidified his role as a versatile player.
Adams has consistently contributed as a scorer, rebounder, and defender throughout the season. His standout moment came during the Southern Section Open Division final, where he scored 26 points to lead his team. Through a blend of tenacity and skill, he has averaged 16 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, recording ten double-doubles along the way.
Despite an injury in the first quarter of the state final, Adams played a pivotal role in leading Sierra Canyon to a remarkable 30-1 record, culminating in both the Southern Section Open Division championship and the state Open Division title. His performance has earned him the distinction of The Times’ boys basketball player of the year for the 2025-26 season.
“He’s a great player,” remarked Harvard-Westlake coach David Rebibo, whose team faced Sierra Canyon three times this season.
Adams’ evolution from an uncertain freshman to a confident, adaptable leader is noteworthy. His journey has taken him from Narbonne to Gardena Serra, and finally to Sierra Canyon, where he has thrived alongside elite talent. The camaraderie among teammates has made the transition seamless for Adams. “It wasn’t hard,” he reflected. “We played well together and spent a lot of time together.”
His older brother, Marcus, played at Narbonne before moving on to Arizona State, paving the way for Maxi to carve his own path in college basketball. This season demonstrated his readiness to handle challenges independently, especially with Marcus away.
“Our mentality is simple,” Adams explained. “We come to work every single time. We put in the time.” As he prepares for his next chapter at North Carolina, Maxi Adams leaves behind a legacy of excellence and teamwork at Sierra Canyon.
