Sierra Canyon Secures Second Place in Mission League Baseball: A Sports Roundup
Umpires’ Ruling on Illegal Bat Sparks Tension in Mission League Baseball Match
In an unusual turn of events, umpires ruled a player out for using an illegal bat during a high school baseball game on Wednesday. The Mission League clash between Sherman Oaks Notre Dame and Sierra Canyon ignited controversy right from the first inning. After an appeal from Notre Dame, umpires inspected the aluminum bat and determined that it had a crack, which produced an odd sound during play.
Sierra Canyon’s head coach, Tom Meusborn, spoke briefly with the umpires but was unable to alter their decision. This incident set the tone for an intense game that lasted nearly four hours, as both teams vied for second place in the league standings.
Sierra Canyon managed to pull ahead in the top of the seventh inning, scoring two runs, aided by an RBI double from Brayden Goldstein and a bases-loaded walk. As the Knights fought back in the bottom of the seventh, they drew two walks with one out. In a crucial moment, Sierra Canyon brought in sophomore pitcher Milo Benattar, who secured a fly out and a force play, clinching a 3-2 victory for his team.
With this win, Sierra Canyon improved to 8-3 in league play, while Notre Dame fell to 7-4.
