A suspect is in custody following a shooting incident near Chris Brown’s residence in Los Angeles.
On Friday, May 1, a man was arrested after allegedly firing a CO2-style handgun at a woman’s vehicle outside the R&B artist’s home in Tarzana, according to reports from TMZ.
Los Angeles Police Department officers responded around 4 p.m. after receiving a call from a woman indicating a possible shooting. She described the suspect as a Black male in his mid-thirties who had allegedly targeted her car.
Upon arrival, officers interviewed both the suspect and the woman involved. The suspect claimed the woman had refused to leave the area, which led to an argument. He alleged that the situation escalated when she drove over his foot, prompting him to fire shots at her vehicle, as reported by TMZ.
No injuries were reported, and the woman did not require hospitalization.
The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Markeith Cungious, was arrested at the scene. He faces charges of discharging a weapon and possession of a weapon in connection with an assault with a deadly weapon case, as confirmed by KTLA.
Authorities clarified that the weapon involved was not a traditional firearm, and the investigation is ongoing.
There is currently no information on whether Brown was home during the incident or if he is connected to the parties involved. Billboard has reached out to the artist’s representatives for further comment.
Brown is preparing for the release of his new album, Brown, set for May 8, and is also gearing up for a joint stadium tour with Usher, which will kick off on June 26 at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver.
