Dame Shirley Bassey has officially entered the Harry Potter universe, decades after serving as the inspiration for a beloved character.
The renowned Welsh singer has contributed three original songs to Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions, a fresh audio rendition of the iconic book series produced by Pottermore and Audible. An exclusive preview of the track “You Stole My Cauldron But You Can’t Have My Heart” is available here.
Bassey served as the original muse for the character Celestina Warbeck during J.K. Rowling’s writing of the series. In a 2015 reflection, Rowling noted, “Celestina is one of my favourite ‘off-stage’ characters in the whole series,” adding that she “always imagined her to resemble Shirley Bassey in both looks and style.”

Reflecting on her involvement, Bassey stated, “I’m honoured to have been an inspiration for the original character of Celestina Warbeck in the Harry Potter series. Bringing her music to life in this ambitious project from Pottermore Publishing and Audible was a joy, and I hope these songs throughout the audiobooks offer a truly magical listening experience for fans worldwide.”
The three original songs feature Bassey’s iconic voice accompanied by a 17-piece big band. The recording took place at Miraval Studios in France, while the band was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London. Bassey previously released her last original music in 2020 on the LP I Owe It All To You.
The first song will debut in the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets audio cast on December 16, while “A Cauldron Full of Hot, Strong Love” and “You Charmed The Heart Right Out of Me” will be featured in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on April 14, 2026.
Bassey joins a roster of A-list talent in the new Audible productions, set to be released over the coming months. The cast includes Hugh Laurie as Albus Dumbledore, Matthew Macfadyen as Lord Voldemort, Riz Ahmed as Professor Snape, and Michelle Gomez as Professor McGonagall.
