Sheinelle Jones Receives a Heartfelt Goodbye from Her Co-Hosts on the Third Hour of ‘Today’
Sheinelle Jones Bids Farewell to “Today” Third Hour as She Transitions to Fourth Hour Co-Host
Sheinelle Jones became emotional during her farewell on Friday, marking her final appearance on the third hour of Today. Co-hosts Al Roker, Craig Melvin, and Dylan Dreyer honored Jones as she prepares to take on her new role as the permanent co-host of the fourth hour alongside Jenna Bush Hager.
“This will be her final show with us before she makes the move officially on January 12th,” Melvin announced to viewers. “We wanted to toast her and share a few—because there have been a slew—but we will share a few of our favorite moments we have had together.”
Melvin praised Jones for her authenticity, both on and off-camera, referring to her as his “sister in spirit.” He expressed his appreciation for her heartfelt storytelling, stating, “The stories you tell come straight from the soul, authentic and kind—journalism’s gold. The loss you endured the world also saw, yet still you rise daily, inspiring all. That smile could outshine the studio’s gleam, the spark of resilience, hope, and dream.”
This loss refers to the passing of Jones’ husband, Uche Ojeh, who succumbed to an aggressive form of brain cancer in May.
Since joining the network in 2014, Jones has been a staple of Today, taking on the role of co-host for its third hour in 2019. Last month, it was announced that she would officially join Hager as a permanent co-host on the fourth hour. Hager remarked on their deep-rooted connection, highlighting their shared experiences filling in for previous co-hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford.
A video tribute to Jones aired during the episode, celebrating her contributions and the bond she has formed with her colleagues over the years.
