Shawn Hatosy Up for Supporting Actor and Director Nominations in ‘The Pitt’ Season 2 at the Emmys
Shawn Hatosy Set to Compete for Emmys with Expanded Roles in "The Pitt"
Shawn Hatosy, who earned his first Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for The Pitt Season 1 in 2025, is making a notable push this year by entering both the Supporting Actor and Director categories for Season 2.
In the acclaimed HBO Max medical drama created by R. Scott Gemmell and produced by John Wells, Hatosy portrays Dr. Jack Abbot, an attending physician and combat veteran at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. After suffering a severe injury during his military service, Abbot transitioned to emergency medicine. He grapples with the profound loss of his wife, turning to his work for solace and maintaining a candid emotional openness that aids both him and his colleagues in confronting life’s adversities.
This season, Hatosy’s performance earned him a promotion from Guest Star to Supporting Actor for the upcoming 2026 Emmys.
Abbot forms a close relationship with daytime physician Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, played by Noah Wyle. This bond becomes critical in the Season 2 finale as the narrative explores mental health challenges. When Dr. Robby acknowledges his suicidal thoughts, Abbot’s support leads to a heartfelt exchange that provides temporary relief. Together, they navigate their personal struggles while reuniting to assist a patient in a critical delivery amid complications, highlighting the gravity of life and their professional camaraderie.
In addition to his acting role, Hatosy also took on the directorial mantle for Episode 9 of Season 2, titled “3:00 p.m.,” which was penned by Cynthia Adarkwa. The episode showcases a crisis in the ER as systems falter, prompting Dana (Katherine LaNasa) to recruit a low-tech ER veteran. Meanwhile, Santos (Isa Briones) cares for a youth impacted by a fireworks explosion.
The Pitt achieved notable acclaim in 2025, securing five Emmy Awards out of 13 nominations for its inaugural season, including Outstanding Drama Series and accolades for Wyle and LaNasa. The series has since garnered additional awards, including a Golden Globe and a Peabody, solidifying its impact in the television landscape.
Hatosy’s career includes notable roles such as Detective Sammy Bryant in TNT’s Southland and the villain Pope Cody on Animal Kingdom. He has also appeared in Fox’s Rescue: HI-Surf and NBC’s ER. Recently, he recurred in CBS’s Fire Country and is set to star alongside Olivia Colman and Brie Larson in FX’s limited series Cry Wolf.
On the film front, he is featured in theaters in Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, alongside Samara Weaving and Sarah Michelle Gellar. His filmography includes significant titles such as Inventing the Abbotts, The Postman, and Public Enemies.
As Hatosy prepares for the competitive Emmy landscape, his multifaceted contributions to The Pitt continue to resonate with audiences and critics alike.
