Seth Rogen Shares His Thoughts on Writers Using AI — Here’s What He Really Thinks
Seth Rogen has made his stance clear regarding the role of artificial intelligence in Hollywood, expressing strong opposition to the use of AI-generated content. During a recent discussion about his new animated film, Tangles, Rogen referred to such content as “stupid dog shit” and asserted that individuals relying on AI for writing “shouldn’t be a writer.”
In an interview with Brut, Rogen articulated his concerns. “I don’t understand what it’s supposed to do,” he stated, reflecting on the quality of AI-generated work. “Every time I see a video on Instagram that’s like, ‘Hollywood is cooked,’ what follows is the most stupid dog shit I’ve ever seen in my life.”
Continuing to elaborate on his beliefs, Rogen added, “If your instinct is to use AI and not go through that process, you shouldn’t be a writer. Because you’re not writing. Go do something else.” He further emphasized his passion for writing, stating, “The idea of a tool that makes me write less is not appealing to me because I like writing.”
Rogen, who is also the producer and star of Tangles, took pride in the film’s production process, highlighting that it was created without the aid of AI. The animated film, directed by Leah Nelson, delves into the challenges faced by a young woman as she navigates her mother’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis and its effects on their family.
“Not at all,” Rogen affirmed when asked about AI’s involvement. “It’s hand-drawn animation. Every frame has a human touch to it, which is great.” His commitment to authenticity in storytelling is underscored by his co-founding of the Alzheimer’s nonprofit Hilarity for Charity with his wife, Lauren Miller Rogen.
