Season 3 Trailer of ‘Shrinking’ Showcases Michael J. Fox and Sparks Between Jimmy and Sofi
Title: "Shrinking" Returns with New Season on Apple TV
The beloved series "Shrinking" is set to make its comeback, bringing back its main therapists and their intricate web of friends and family. Apple has unveiled the trailer for the show’s upcoming third season.
Created by Emmy Award-winning duo Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein, alongside Jason Segel, the new season will premiere globally with a one-hour episode on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Following the premiere, one new episode will be released each week on Wednesdays until April 8, 2026.
In Season 3, Jason Segel’s character, Jimmy, navigates the complexities of concealing his sadness while expressing enthusiasm for Alice’s (Lukita Maxwell) college soccer recruitment in Connecticut. A familiar scene sees Jimmy and Louis Winston, played by Brett Goldstein, conversing on a bench—a recurring motif in the series.
“All I want is for her to live peacefully, and then she can go off and make whatever mistakes a young woman in her 70s might make,” Jimmy tells Louis, who responds, “that sounds healthy.”
Sofi, portrayed by Cobie Smulders, makes a brief appearance, but Jimmy misses the opportunity to meet her. This moment draws the attention of Liz (Christa Miller), who observes from her balcony, while Sean (Luke Tennie) is busy on the pool house roof, and Derek (Ted McGinley) retrieves a football from a tree.
Additionally, the season introduces Michael J. Fox, who makes a memorable entry at a doctor’s office visit for Paul. He humorously remarks that he’s there for “a haircut,” in light of his Parkinson’s diagnosis.
Brian Urie reprises his role as Jimmy’s best friend, and the new season will also feature returning guest stars including Goldstein, Damon Wayans Jr., Devin Kawaoka, Wendie Malick, and Smulders. Notable new additions to the cast include Jeff Daniels and Michael J. Fox, the latter of whom has become a prominent advocate for Parkinson’s disease awareness.
"Shrinking" is produced for Apple TV by Warner Bros. Television, with both Lawrence and Goldstein under overall deals alongside Lawrence’s Doozer Productions. The executive producer team also includes Segel, Neil Goldman, James Ponsoldt, Jeff Ingold, Liza Katzer, Randall Winston, Rachna Fruchbom, Brian Gallivan, Ashley Nicole Black, and Bill Posley.
