Hit French Thriller ‘Sea Shadows’ to Stream on MHz Choice in the U.S.
MHz Choice, a streaming service known for international dramas, has acquired the rights to the acclaimed French eco-thriller series Sea Shadows. The show has already garnered significant attention in France, emerging as one of the country’s most popular dramas.
Sea Shadows centers on oceanographer Abigail, portrayed by Fleur Geffrier (Das Boot), who returns to her hometown to probe a mysterious shipwreck. As her investigation deepens, she confronts unexpected revelations and a mysterious underwater presence. The series also features Guillaume Labbé (The Hookup Plan) and Thierry Godard (A French Village).
Originally aired on France 2 as Rivages, the series averaged an impressive 4.2 million viewers, with additional viewers accessing episodes via catch-up. France TV Distribution, responsible for international sales, has facilitated the deal with MHz Choice, which specializes in global drama programming. This agreement follows earlier sales to Walter Presents in the UK and Ireland, as well as NDR in Germany.
Created by Jonathan Rio (Fritures) and Monica Rattazzi (Piste Noire), the series is co-written by Mathilde Arnaud (Master Crimes) and Fanny Talmone (Captain Sharif), with all six episodes directed by David Hourrègue (Skam France). Produced by Mintee Studio and Thalie images, Sea Shadows has enjoyed a successful festival circuit; it premiered at Series Mania in 2024, winning the Audience Award at the Montréal Séries Festival, and competed at the South International Series Festival in Spain. France TV Distribution has prioritized the title at major markets, including Rendez-Vous and MIPCOM, indicating strong momentum for the series.
