Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb Share Their First Conversation Since Savannah’s Mother’s Disappearance
Co-host Savannah Guthrie recently spoke with Hoda Kotb in her first interview since her mother, Nancy, went missing. Guthrie described the situation as “unbearable,” expressing the emotional toll it has taken on her family.
The interview, set to air on Thursday and Friday, marks Guthrie’s initial public statement since her mother was last seen on January 31. Authorities have not identified any suspects in the case, and the Guthrie family has appealed for assistance, offering a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to her recovery.
“Someone needs to do the right thing,” Guthrie conveyed to Kotb in an excerpt featured on Today. “We are in agony. We are in agony. It is unbearable.”
She further expressed her distress, stating, “And to think of what she went through. I wake up every night, in the middle of the night, everything night and in the darkness. I imagine her terror, and it is unthinkable that those thoughts demand to be thought. And I will not hide my face, but she needs to come home now.”
Guthrie is anticipated to return to Today, although a specific date has not been announced.
Kotb, who temporarily left the show last year, has been filling in for Guthrie in the meantime. She noted on Wednesday’s episode that Guthrie demonstrates a mix of desperation and resilience, stating, “I mean, she’s hoping that somebody, whoever this person is, will see something and say something.”
Kotb also highlighted that Guthrie, during the interview, discusses the investigation, her faith, and her coping mechanisms. She mentioned, “She talks about how God is holding her hand … and she will also describe what’s been happening here.” Guthrie is expected to share her perspectives on the future of the investigation as well.
