Sasaki Shines on the Mound and Ohtani’s Three Hits Help Dodgers Sweep Angels 10-1
Dodgers Sweep Freeway Series with Dominant 10-1 Victory Over Angels
In a commanding performance, Roki Sasaki allowed only one run and recorded eight strikeouts over seven innings, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 10-1 win against the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. This victory completed a sweep of the weekend Freeway Series for the Dodgers.
Sasaki (2-3) showcased the best outing of his two-year major league tenure at Angel Stadium, allowing just four hits and setting career highs in both innings pitched and strikeouts—all while not issuing a single walk in 91 pitches. After a tumultuous rookie season marked by early struggles and a significant injury hiatus, Sasaki appears to be solidifying his role within the team’s rotation.
The Dodgers notched their fifth straight win, scoring a remarkable total of 31 runs over the series against the Angels, who currently hold the worst record in Major League Baseball. Notable contributions came from Shohei Ohtani and Andy Pages, both of whom delivered two-run singles during a pivotal fourth inning.
Ohtani, returning to his former stadium, recorded three hits, bringing his total to eight hits and eight RBIs over his past four games. A recent slump had led to the Dodgers granting the four-time MVP a break from batting earlier in the week.
On the other side, Grayson Rodriguez made his debut for the Angels after being acquired from Baltimore during the offseason. He struggled through 3.2 innings, giving up seven runs, seven hits, and four walks. Rodriguez had been sidelined since July 2024 due to a series of injuries, including spring shoulder inflammation.
The Angels’ lone score came from an RBI single by Yoán Moncada, marking the team’s sixth consecutive loss.
Looking ahead, World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto (3-3, 3.60 ERA) is set to take the mound for the Dodgers in San Diego on Monday night as they face the Padres for their first meeting of the season. Meanwhile, Walbert Ureña (1-4, 3.29 ERA) will pitch for the Angels as they open a four-game series against the Athletics at Angel Stadium.
