Sara and Erin Foster Share Their Thoughts on Skincare, Life Lessons, and Aging in Hollywood
Sara and Erin Foster are recognized for their dynamic roles in the world of entertainment and fashion. The sisters, co-founders of the clothing brand Favorite Daughter, have also made waves with the Netflix show *Nobody Wants This*, their podcast *World’s First Podcast*, and their latest collaboration, featuring in Dermalogica’s campaign for its flagship product, the Daily Microfoliant, priced at $69.
The Daily Microfoliant, a gentle powder exfoliator activated with water, is the top-selling powder exfoliant in the United States, with a unit sold every 21 seconds. Its unique formulation combines rice powder enzymes, salicylic acid, rice bran, colloidal oatmeal, and alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), which work together to help brighten and smooth the skin.
In an exclusive discussion, the Fosters shared insights on aging, skincare education, and the fictional skincare routines of their *Nobody Wants This* characters, Joanne and Morgan.
Erin Foster: “I’m really a minimalist. So I wake up in the morning. If I manage to make milk for my daughter before she wakes up, I’m pretty impressed. Otherwise, I’m juggling her and that task simultaneously. While she’s drinking her milk, I rush to the bathroom to wash my face, apply moisturizer, and brush my teeth. Typically, in the morning, I just use a face oil and moisturizer. At night, I exfoliate with the Daily Microfoliant three times a week, and on the other nights, I’m applying tretinoin. Very simple.” She noted the appeal of the Daily Microfoliant’s travel size, which retails for $19.50, adding that her husband often takes hers.
Sara Foster: “We’ve been misled about needing numerous active ingredients and lengthy routines. I’ve tried that, and my skin didn’t react well. I now understand that I have sensitive skin, so I focus on simplicity. I love the Microfoliant because it ‘washes the day away’ and prepares my skin for moisture.” She described her busy mornings, often starting around 6:30 a.m., filled with packing lunches and managing her children’s routines. “I do my skincare at night; I don’t wash my face in the morning because I think, ‘What am I washing off?’ Prepping your skin properly at night is essential.”
EF: “Moisturizer is key for me. I can’t stand feeling dry, so I keep hand creams and moisturizers on hand at all times.”
SF: “I’ve become diligent about sunscreen. I can see the difference in my skin, especially since I spend so much time in the car. I have a UVA-blocking window tint, but it’s not sufficient for the windshield.” She emphasized the importance of a simplified skincare routine, reflecting that less often yields better results for sensitive skin.
Both sisters acknowledged the impact of diet on skin health. Sara noted, “When Valentina eats a lot of sugar, her acne worsens. It’s a lesson I wish I had remembered earlier, especially as I guide my teenage daughter.”
They also discussed their characters from *Nobody Wants This*. “I think Joanne doesn’t wash off her makeup at night,” Sara speculated, while Erin countered, “You underestimate her; she’s not dirty, just carefree.” Sara quipped, “Right, but the writer might disagree.”
Regarding skin care routines, Erin surmised, “Morgan would be more focused on trying the latest products, constantly updating her routine, unlike Joanne who forgets about hers.”
Reflecting on the broader perception of beauty, Erin remarked, “It’s surprising how people used to seek work that made them look like themselves, just younger. Now, there’s an acceptance of transformations that can seem almost alien.” Sara added, “We have a generation growing up idolizing seemingly perfect women, only to later discover they’ve had significant cosmetic procedures that they don’t disclose.”
