UCLA Police Arrest Santa Monica Man on Sexual Assault and Kidnapping Charges
LOS ANGELES – UCLA police have arrested 24-year-old Alexander Schecter on charges of sexual assault and kidnapping, amid ongoing investigations that suggest there may be additional victims.
Authorities responded to a report of a potential kidnapping on March 8 in the 500 block of Landfair Avenue. According to police, Schecter allegedly deterred two UCLA students from leaving his vehicle, subsequently threatening them. Fearing for their safety, the students remained in the car while he drove to the 400 block of Gayley Avenue.
Four days later, detectives identified and arrested Schecter on suspicion of kidnapping and false imprisonment. After being booked, he posted bail shortly thereafter.
Following this arrest, detectives discovered evidence linking Schecter to a previously unreported sexual assault involving a separate victim with no connection to the university. This incident reportedly occurred between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. on October 12, 2025, near Venice Boulevard and Clarington Avenue.
Schecter was apprehended at his home in Santa Monica and taken to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Twin Towers Correctional Facility. He faces multiple charges including rape by force, forcible oral copulation, robbery, extortion, and battery. His bail has been set at $600,000.
Authorities are urging anyone with additional information or potential claims against Schecter to reach out to the UCLA Police Department Investigations Division at 310-825-9371. Detectives are particularly interested in hearing from individuals who may have experienced unreported incidents involving Schecter.
