Santa Monica Introduces Talented Sophomore Leo Pomianek
In a high school basketball matchup that concluded with a decisive score of 117-76, Santa Monica’s team faced a tough defeat against Inglewood. However, Coach James Hecht found a silver lining in the performance of one standout player.
Leo Pomianek, a 6-foot-6 sophomore who joined the team on December 26 after a sit-out transfer period, made an impressive debut by scoring 30 points. Despite his team’s loss, Pomianek’s performance became a focal point, especially as he was tasked with guarding Inglewood’s top scorer, Jason Crowe Jr., in the second half. Crowe ended the game with 50 points.
Hecht expressed optimism about Pomianek’s future, noting that the player is still acclimating to his new teammates and joined the starting lineup only earlier this month. Previously home-schooled, Pomianek had played as a freshman for St. Monica. While primarily an inside player, he demonstrated versatility by sinking a three-pointer during the game.
Looking ahead, Hecht is excited about the opportunities to develop the team around Pomianek in the upcoming seasons.
