Sandra Lee, Known as ‘Dr. Pimple Popper,’ Experienced a Stroke While Filming Season 2
Sandra Lee Reveals She Suffered Stroke While Filming ‘Dr. Pimple Popper: Breaking Out’
Sandra Lee, renowned dermatologist and star of Lifetime’s Dr. Pimple Popper: Breaking Out, disclosed that she experienced a stroke during the filming of the show’s second season last November. The incident led to a significant two-month halt in production for the season, which is set to premiere on April 20.
In an interview with People, Lee recounted her initial symptoms, stating, “I had what I thought was a hot flash. I got super sweaty and didn’t feel like myself.” As filming continued, her condition worsened. “I just felt very restless,” she described. “In one leg I kept feeling shooting pains.” She noticed a troubling decline in her ability to articulate speech and feared she might be experiencing a stroke.
An MRI later confirmed that Lee had suffered an ischemic stroke. “As a physician I couldn’t deny that I had slurred speech, that I was having weakness on one side,” she explained, reflecting on the surreal nature of the moment. “What essentially happened is I had a part of my brain that died.”
Following the incident, Lee underwent physical and occupational therapy, but she also revealed she struggled with PTSD as a result of the experience. In the People article, she urged others to monitor their blood pressure, cholesterol, and stress levels.
“My blood pressure and my cholesterol were not under control,” Lee admitted. “I have a lot of stress in my life, dealing with my patients and the show. I want to think about [the stroke] as a blessing in disguise. Because it reminds you to take better care of yourself.”
As viewers await the upcoming season, Lee’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of health awareness.
